"It's been such a long time"

Lyrics from the band Boston aside, it has been a while since I posted...over three months, actually. It's amazing how life gets in the way when you're just starting to get into a discipline such as blogging.

Yesterday, I paid a visit to Fay. It was my third attempt to stop in, chat, and bring her communion. Third time was a charm. Fay is 101 1/2 years old. And when you get her talking, she just keeps going and going. But her stories are full of wisdom and happiness. She never mentioned anything about the rough times in her life with a look of despair, but with the same smile on her face as when she talked about the good times.
Fay said that at almost 102, you're just taking up space so it's really not worth it to live that long. But that she's glad that she is still well enough and lucid enough to live in her apartment. I disagreed with her about the taking up space deal, because there are so few people in the world with as much wisdom as one who was born in the first decade of the 20th century and is blessed to still be able to remember and tell people about it with a genuine smile on your face.

If I live that long, I want to have the same cheery outlook and the great wealth of wisdom as Fay. I can imagine that if she lived in bible times, Fay would be like Anna, the prophet who had lived with her husband seven years and was a widow until the age of 84 (Fay's husband died in 1966). Anna never left the temple and if it were possible, I think Fay would still be in church every Sunday and active during the week.

Thanks be to God for prophets like Anna and women like Fay.
